There are many sexually transmitted diseases caused to the human life. A sexually transmitted diseases i.e. STD are also known as sexually transmitted infection STI or venereal disease VD, is an illness that has significant of transmission between humans by means of human sexual behavior including various types of sex. There are many types of germs such as parasites, protozoa, bacteria, fungi, virus etc. which are responsible for such kinds of diseases.

Genital wart is one of the diseases, which is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the virus. To treat such types of diseases, Aldara i.e. Imiquimod medication is widely used, which belongs to a class of drugs known as biological response modifiers available in form of sachets weighing 0.25gm. The medication works internally by activating the body’s immune system and hence many doctors suggest the Aldara medication.

Imiquimod is also used to treat a minor form of skin cancer known as superficial basal cell carcinoma, when surgery would not be an appropriate treatment. It is also used to treat actinic keratosis, which is a condition caused by too much of sun exposure on the face and scalp. Once applied on the affected skin area, the local immune cells are activated and they engage in eliminating cells infected with the human papillomaviorus HPV responsible for causing genital warts.

Imiquimod skin cream may interact with the preservatives, foods, varied medications, dyes etc.

The Aldara medication should be applied only in the area of the skin for which it is prescribed. However, it should not be used on broken skin, wounds and burns, but wait until these conditions have healed before applying Aldara cream to the affected area.

After the prescribed duration of treatment i.e. of 6-10 hours in case of genital or perianal warts is over, wash the affected area thoroughly with mild soap and water.
Also if you have any surgery or medical treatment for any skin conditions inform your doctor about the same prior to starting treatment with this medicine.

Do not allow any other person to use your medication without getting doctor’s prescription themselves and also avoid using this medicine for other health conditions on your own. Keep the medicine away from the children and pets.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as you remember. And, if it is almost the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue to your regular dosing. Do not double your doses in any case and consult your doctor for the missed dosage.

Imiquimod cream is generally used in the treatment of the anal and genital areas and the warts on the skin. However, the cream is not a cure and new warts may appear during the course of this treatment.

This medication may be prescribed for other uses also, so ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information about the Aldara medication.

Imiquimod Cream medication should be stored at 25°C and 77°F and at cool and dry place. Check Expiry date without fail. Keep all medicines away from women, newborns, children and pets. Also, keep it away from heat, dampness and direct light. In any case, do not store the Aldara sachets in the bathroom.

Following precautions must be taken during consuming generic Aldara:

1. It is very important for the patient to know that before using Imiquimod skin cream they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from unusual allergies towards skin infections, severe inflammation of the scalp or any kind of severe or mild skin diseases.

2. Also acknowledge your doctor if you need to undergo any kind of surgery, including dental surgery or need an x-ray procedure that uses contrast agents. So, inform your doctor immediately about it, so that the doctor can decide whether to continue taking Aldara or stop it during the surgery.

3. Let the doctor also know if you are in-taking or are planning to take any prescribed or non prescribed medicines, health supplements or any OTC medications, vitamins etc.

4. Do not use the Aldara medication, if you have any kind of allergy to it or to any ingredients of it and tell your doctor or pharmacist about the allergy and get treated.

5. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding before taking Imiquimod Cream medication. Inform your doctor immediately when you plan to conceive, or become pregnant during the course.

6. Do not share the drug with others unless they are prescribed by the doctor themselves. And if your symptoms of side effects do not improve in few weeks or if they become worse and bothersome, check these conditions immediately with your doctor.

7. Please, use the medicine in the prescribed amount and do not overdose it or use it for the longer period of time, as this may result in skin damage. Do not discontinue on your own and consult your doctor before doing so to avoid further problems.

8. Never cover the treatment areas with bandages or any type of dressing unless suggested by your doctor to do so. Ensure adequate ventilation for the affected area is there.

9. Remember, the Imiquimod Cream is for external use only. And should never be taken orally or applied in or near your eyes, lips or nostrils or directly to the vagina and anus.

10. Try to strictly avoid any kinds of sexual contacts, while the cream is on the treatment areas. Also, refrain from sexual contact, including anal or oral sex during the course of treatment for genital warts. However, consult your doctor for further information.
