In our day to day life, we fall sick. Falling sick may be because of the attacks from the viruses, fungi or bacteria’s in our body. They attack us strongly and if our immune system is unable to fight against them, we fall ill. And hence, we need some more additional help to fight back for our healthy life. And so, we opt for some kind of antibiotics.

Antibiotic is a Greek work, where anti means ‘against’ and bios means ‘life’. It is also known as ‘Antibacterial’. Antibiotic is a drug used to treat infections caused by the bacteria. Bacteria are very small organisms, which attack and cause illness to both human beings and animals. They should be treated effectively or they can harm life to the most extent causing some critical illnesses. Hence, we take antibiotics to get rid of these bacteria’s. One of the well renowned antibiotics is Amoxil, which is sold world wide.

Amoxil is an effective antibiotic. It belongs to the class Amoxicillin. Amoxil is used to treat bacterial infections and diseases. Many infections like – throat infection, tonsils, lungs infection, bladder infection, skin diseases, infection in urinary track, and some sex transmitted diseases are also treated by Amoxil. It functions by not allowing the bacteria’s to form their walls, which are essential for them to keep their bacterial cell contents together and survive. They cannot survive without their cell wall. Hence, they are ultimately destroyed. Amoxil is treated against many different bacteria’s like Streptococci, E. coli, Pneumococci, H. influenzae, N. influenzae, N. gonorrhoea etc.

The dose of the Amoxil depends on the severity of the infections caused. Consult your doctor for the prescription of the dose for an individual.
Take amoxicillin capsules with a glass of water in an upright position. Amoxil can be taken with or without food usually every 8 – 12 hours or as directed. Do not overdose or take it for longer period than suggested by the doctor. Do not stop the medication in between.

Persons consuming Amoxil may experience some side effects. You need to check that are you allergic to the Amoxil medication. Inform your doctor as and when the effects are observed and get treated soon. Some side effects seen are – Fever, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fungal infections in digestive tracks, vagina and mouth, bleeding, rashes, unusual weakness, less urination or no urination, easy bruising, heartburn, insomnia, itching, convulsions, swollen tongue, loss of appetite, dark urine, sore throat, jaundice, clay colored stools, chill, confusions etc.

Some rare side effects can also be seen as – Deafness, sensitivity to sun, unusual blood clotting, blood disorders, formation of stones in stomach. However, no matter which kind of side effects occur, seek medical attention immediately.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Amoxicillin or any other antibiotic or any other medication. They may be Chloramphenicol, Other antibiotics, Probenecid etc. which may have interactions with the Amoxil medication.

Inform your doctor if you have any kind of Kidney diseases, Allergies, Asthma or Phenylketonuria or have suffered from any other similar diseases before.

If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you recall. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only the current dose. Do not double your dose in any case, to cope up with the missed dose. Maintain an interval of at least 6 to 8 hours between 2 doses or as directed by your physician.

Amoxil stops or kills the growth of infection causing bacteria. It treats a range of infections like STDs, UTIs, skin and ear infections, respiratory infections.

Store the Amoxil medicine in a cool dry place at room temperature between 15-30°C and between 59-86°F. Protect the medicine from moisture, direct light, heat etc. And never store the Amoxicillin medicine in the bathroom.

Following precautions must be taken while using Amoxil medication:

1. You need to check whether you are allergic to the Amoxicillin. If yes, you should not take the medicine and consult your doctor on the same.

2. If you have some kidney disorders, please let your doctor know about this, because low dosage is prescribed in such cases.

3. Diarrhea is a common side effect caused by the amoxillin, but if you get bloody or watery diarrhea, it may be serious. So seek immediate medical help.

4. Amoxicillin is completely ineffective in treating viruses such as cold or flu. Hence, it should not be used or the bacteria’s may get resistant to the medicine.

5. Amoxil can interact with other drugs also. So, be sure to inform your doctor about other medicines as the combination may cause some critical problems.

6. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, consult before you start taking the medicine. Amoxil can pass through breast milk and may cause harm.

7. Prescribed dosage should be followed strictly or the bacteria’s may get resistance to the medicine if they are taken in larger amounts or for longer period.

8. If any side effects seem bothersome to you, contact your doctor immediately and get consulted.

9. Never share your medicine with anyone.
