We get affected through many kinds of diseases every now and then. Sometimes, we get badly affected because of worms. In our childhood we used to fall prey to these worms very often and were treated medically accordingly. Biltricide Generic i.e. Praziquantel is a medication which is used effectively in the treatment of worm infections. Praziquantel is an oral medicine, which belongs to a group of medicines called Anthelmintics. These are the drugs which are used to kill or dispel parasitic worms that infect the human body. Sometimes, it can also be used to treat some tapeworm infections as suggested by the doctor. It is also used in the treatment of liver fluke infections that are also known as snail fever, bilharziasis, or chistosomiasis.

Biltricide i.e. Praziquantel works in following manner: It causes paralysis and terrible spasms to the muscles of the worms. In certain cases, some types of worms are passed out of the body through the stools, but they can be barely seen as they are fully destroyed in the stomach itself.

Generic Biltricide tablets contain 600 mg of Praziquantel. Inactive ingredients: corn Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Povidone, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Polyethylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide and ypromellose. Biltricide Praziquantel is a trematodicide provided in tablets that are used in the treatment of worm infections caused by worms which belong to all species of Schistosoma S.mekongi, S.japonicum, S.mansoni, and S.hematobium, besides Liver flukes that cause Clonorchiasis C.sinensis, and Opisthorchiasis O.viverrin O.felineus. Remember, Praziquantel cannot treat infections caused because of roundworms and pinworms.

The medicine should not be taken in empty stomach. Have some food and take the Biltricide orally with one full glass of water and swallow it quickly. The medicine should not be crushed or chewed as it is very bitter in taste. Even if some part of the tablet remains in your mouth can induce vomiting and gagging sensations.


Take as per physician’s advice and the dosage of the Praziquantel is based on many factors such as: response to treatment, body weight and your medical conditions.
The recommended ideal dosage is 20 mg/kg of bodyweight, three times a day, as it is a one day treatment. There should be specific time intervals in taking the medicine which should not be less than 4 hours and should not exceed more than 6 hours.

Some side effects can be seen such as: Fever, Nausea, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Headache, Vomiting, Drowsiness, Loss of appetite, Stomach cramps, increased sweating, breathing difficulty, Skin rash/hives/itching, abdominal discomfort, urticarial, lower back pain, hypotension.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form before starting the medication. Very few drugs can interact with Biltricide like: Dexamethasone, St. Johns Wort, Rifampin, Cimetidine, Barbiturates, Chloroquine, Albendazole, Grapefruit juice. A few types of antiepileptic medication such as Carbamazepine, Fosphenytoin, Phenytoin, Oxcarbazepine. So please check with your doctor or physician. Even inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form. This makes the doctor’s job easy to prescribe the exact and correct dosage for you, and to warn you about which drugs you should not take along with the Praziquantel medicine.

If the suffering patient has collapsed or is not breathing call local emergency services at 911. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Shower regularly and clean and scrub your hands under your fingernails everyday.
All undergarments should be regularly changed and laundered and toilets and floors should be scrubbed clean. Keep away from pet feces and make sure pets have been treated regularly for worms.
Before taking the treatment, be sure to inform your doctor of any disease you have suffered from, if you have suffered from any parasitic brain infection and/or seizures, and if you have Ocular Cysticerocosis or if you have any heart or liver ailment, enlarged spleen.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, consult with your doctor immediately. However, as it is a 1 day treatment, you may not have trouble in remembering the dosage.

Anthelmintics are medicines used in the treatment of blood fluke infections.
Generic Biltricide gives relief from parasitic infections like:-

Schistosoma [also called Bilharzia], is a skin infection, which occurs when people come into contact with schistosoma eggs of certain snails that are present in fresh water.

Clonorchiasis, is a chronic infection caused by liver fluke [Clonorchis sinensis], acquired by eating the fluke larvae.

Opisthorchiasis [also called Cat liver fluke disease] that affects the liver and biliary passage when raw or poorly cooked fish is eaten.

Biltricide tablets should be stored at room temperature between 86 degrees F 30 degrees C away from light. Do not store the medicine in the bathroom. Also, keep it away from moisture, heat and direct light. Moisture or Heat may cause the medicine to break down. Check Expiry date without fail. Keep all medicines away from women, newborns, children and pets.

Following precautions must be taken during consuming generic Biltricide:

1. Let your doctor know, if you are suffering from some kind of severe diseases or had ever suffered from Liver disease, Worm Cysts in the eye etc. or any other problem.

2. Let the doctor also know if you are in-taking any prescribed or non prescribed medicines health supplements etc. for any other condition. Avoid grapefruit juice while having Biltricide medication, as it interferes with the drug, making it difficult for the body to assimilate the drug fully, thereby reducing its effect.

3. If you are undergoing therapy for any other medical problem, then it is recommended that you do not use Biltricide.

5. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this drug. If your gynecologist advises you to use this drug, then only go for it.

6. Nursing mothers should not breastfeed their infants on the day they take Biltricide medication and should wait for the next 72 hours to breastfeed again.

7. As elderly people are at greater risk of having decreased renal function, the risk of any toxic reaction to this medicine can be more for them than for other patients.

8. This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. So people who operate heavy machinery or drive have to be very careful and alert. If possible take rest at home for a day if the doctor advises.

9. Never allow anyone to use your drugs without the doctor’s permission as doing so may harm them.

10. Keep the medicine out of reach of women, newborns, children and pets.
