In our day to day lives, we get affected from various organisms which make us fall sick. To deal with these enormous sickness caused by them, we need to take some antibiotics which can relieve us. There are many numbers of infections caused by bacteria’s, viruses etc. and hence we need to take different antibiotics accordingly as suggested by the doctor. Zithromax is one of the antibiotics which treat innumerable number of infections caused to the human body.

Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic which is chemically related to Erythromycin and clarithromycin Biaxin. It treats various infections caused to the skin infections, respiratory infections, ear infections etc. It also treats various common infections such as bacterial infections and sexually transmitted diseases. It is effective against many bacteria’s such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium avium and many others.

Zithromax works in a specific style. It decreases the bacteria’s ability to make protein and affects its peptide activity. Hence, they cannot grow because of the deficiency of proteins. Hence the infection and the growth both are stopped and the remaining bacteria’s are killed by our immune system or they peril naturally as they are deficient of proteins. In children, it can be used to treat pneumonia, tonsillitis, middle ear infection and strep throat.

Zithromax is usually taken once a day. Adhere to the dosage prescribed by your physician. Take the capsules/tablets/suspension as advised by the treating doctor. Finish the entire course of the medicine even if you feel better, else the infection may revert back. The suspension can be taken with or without food. Measure the liquid with the special measuring spoon meant for such medicines.

Azithromycin is very friendly and generally is well tolerated. Most of the people consuming the medicine has very minor or no side effects. The most common side effects are diarrhea, loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting each of which may occur in fewer than one in twenty persons who consumes Azithromycin.

Rarer side effects may include abnormal liver tests, allergic reactions and nervousness. You should immediately seek medical attention if some serious side effects are noticed such as: Anxiety, Agitation, Anemia, Convulsions, Palpitations, Arrhythmias, Thrush infections, Inflammation of the Vagina, Fainting, Skin Rashes or itching, Dizziness, Pins and needle sensations etc.
Please contact your doctor immediately to get treated on time, when such severe side effects are noticed or it may become worse to cope up with such conditions.

Azithromycin except Zmax should not be taken at the same time as aluminum- or magnesium- based antacids, such as Mylanta or Maalox because antacids will bind the Azithromycin and prevent it from being absorbed from the intestine.
Unlike erythromycin and clarithromycin Azithromycin is generally considered free of interactions with most other medicines. It is recommended that Azithromycin should not be taken at the same time as aluminum- or magnesium- based antacids such as Mylanta or Maalox because antacids will bind the Azithromycin and prevent it from being absorbed from the intestine.
It should not be taken together with Statins, Ergotamine/related medicines, Anticoagulants [Warfarin], Oral Birth Control pills, Oral Typhoid vaccine, Cyclosporine/Digoxin/Quetiapine/Theophylline, Nelfinavir, or any Antacids.

If the suffering patient has collapsed or is not breathing call local emergency services at 911.

Once a medicine has been approved for marketing for a certain use, some experience may reveal that it is also useful for other medical problems. Although, these uses are not included in product labeling but you can consult your doctor for more results. Azithromycin can also be used in certain patients suffering from the following medical conditions like - Trachoma treatment.

If you miss a dose of this medicine take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses or it may lead to serious side effects.

Azithromycin is effective against susceptible bacteria causing infections of the middle ear, tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis ,bronchitis, pneumonia and sinuses. It is also effective against certain sexually transmitted infectious diseases such as Nongonococcal Urethritis and Cervicitis.

Capsules should be stored below 30°C 86°F. Suspension should be kept between 5° and 30°C 41° and 86°F. Always keep the container of the medicine tightly closed. Avoid storing the medicine in the bathroom. Protect the medicine from moisture, direct light, heat etc.

Following precautions must be taken while using generic Zithromax medication:

1. Discuss the complete medical history with your doctor before consuming Zithromax. If you ever had the problems like live or kidney disease, cystic fibrosis, irregular heartbeats, HIV or any major operation, let your doctor know about this, so that accordingly he/she will suggest you for the medicine and its dose.

2. If you are consuming some other medicines, supplements, vitamins, herbal products etc. ,let your doctor be aware of this. If you have any allergies of certain drugs, feel free to share it with the doctor.

3. Do not share your medicine with others, even if they are suffering from the same condition.

4. Those who are in need to take the Oral Typhoid vaccine should take it at least 3 days after finishing the course of Zithromax medication.

5. It should be taken at least one hour before or two hours after taking any antacid. Strictly follow these rules.

6. Children who weigh less than 45kg should not be given the capsules but only the suspension.

7. Pregnant women, women planning to conceive, and lactating mothers should consult their doctors before consuming this medicine.

8. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these substances like:
Dihydroergotamine, Ergotamine, Terfenadine, Anticoagulants, Cyclosporine, Digoxin, Nelfinavir, or the medications that may suppress your immune system. Because, your doctor may have to change the dose of these medicines, and will advise you to space them at a different time from Azithromycin to avoid any reactions.

9. Discard the any left over medicine, if it is not used or needed till 10 days and learn the proper method of discarding from your pharmacist or doctor.

10. Keep the medicine out of reach from the children.
